Laurent Perrier is a family owned Champagne house, one of the best, dating from 1812. During World War II the owner, Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt, showed great foresight in building a false wall and hiding 100,000 bottles behind to protect them from marauding German soldiers. Later her son army sergeant Bernard helped break into Hitler’s home in the Bavarian Alps, where he discovered half a million bottles of wine. Among them were hundreds of cases of Champagne that he’d watched being stolen years earlier! With fine mousse and lively flavours of wild strawberries, raspberries and ripe cherries, this lovely pink fizz is a treat at any celebration. Guests will love it – and the story! And it is beautifully presented with two fine flutes.
